
Clive has over 22 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, encompassing business leadership, project management and drug development. He was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of PowderMed Ltd and led their sale to Pfizer Inc in October 2006. Prior to that he was the Senior Vice President, Research and Development of PowderJect Pharmaceuticals plc, which was acquired by Chiron for £550 million in 2003. He also held a senior position at Glaxo Wellcome as the UK Research Director where his role included co-chairing the management group that oversaw all of the company’s research projects worldwide.
Sam has over ten years’ experience in the financial services industry focusing on biotechnology, most recently at Lehman Brothers where he held the position of Industry Group Leader for European Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals. Sam was ranked the number one European Biotechnology equity analyst by Institutional Investor magazine in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and by Thomson Extel in 2004 and 2005. Sam has a PhD from the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge where he worked in the research group of Sir Gregory Winter FRS, scientific co-founder of Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT) and Domantis.
Ian was one of the founders of Pharmaceutical Profiles, a successful spin-out company from Nottingham University. Prior to an MBO in January 2005, Ian had served as the Chief Executive and Chairman of the company, specializing in early phase clinical trials for over 15 years. He has published over 250 research papers/abstracts in the area of drug absorption /delivery and in 2005 received the CRS "Career Achievement Award in Oral Drug Delivery". In 1997 he served as an expert scientist for the FDA and is recognized globally as an innovator in early drug development.
Prior to joining Modern Biosciences, Will was Group Financial Controller of IP Group plc where he oversaw the finance and operations of the company. During his tenure, IP Group increased its profits from £5m to £40m and listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange. Will was actively engaged in board level roles within IP Group’s portfolio of biotech company investments and acted as interim Finance Director during the IPOs of Oxford Catalysts Group plc and Modern Water plc. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the financial services division of KPMG in 2002 and holds a BA (Hons) in Economics.
Alan is CEO of IP Group Plc. Previously he was founder and CEO of Techtran Group Ltd, which was acquired by IP Group Plc in January 2005, and was formerly a partner in KPMG where he specialised in corporate finance advice to technology-based fast growth businesses. He has worked on over 75 transactions helping businesses to raise more than £200m. Alan is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a BA in Economics from University of Leeds and an MBA from the University of Bradford. He is also a member and fellow of the corporate finance and IT faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Bruce was formerly Chief Scientific Officer of IP Group plc. Prior to this he held the position of Senior VP of Development at Neurocrine Biosciences, a NASDAQ listed Biotechnology company, where he had overall responsibility for directing Neurocrine's selection and advancement of drug candidates from research into clinical development. Bruce joined Neurocrine after 27 years at Servier (United Kingdom), where he served as Research & Development Director. In this capacity, he was responsible the development and registration of seven drugs and vaccines.
Kevin has over 18 years’ experience in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Most recently, Kevin was Vice President of Development at Domantis, the antibody drug discovery company, where he was responsible for managing all aspects of clinical development. Domantis was bought by GSK for £230m in December 2006. Kevin has served as Director of Medical Research at Biogen Inc and was also a director at Ares Advanced Technology (part of Ares Serono), Massachusetts, and a Group Leader at SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals. Kevin holds a PhD in Immunology from the University of London.
Rose has worked for 9 years in discovery & early drug development at SmithKline Beecham and Biotica. At Biotica, Rose led the mTOR inhibitors program licensed in 2006 to Wyeth in a deal worth up to $195 million. As Director of Microbiology at Biotica, Rose established, equipped & structured the Department and fermentation facility. A graduate of Aberdeen, Rose continued her interest in microbial biochemistry obtaining a Ph.D. at Hull University and, after a brief sojourn into biosensors at MediSense Inc., UCL Department of Biochemical Engineering.
Lisa has 10 years’ experience in project management, including time as a team leader in translational medicine and genetics. As part of her role as a team and group leader, she has been responsible for target identification, validation and progression into the clinic, as well as for the development of biomarker strategies to support early Proof of Principle work. Lisa has worked extensively in collaborative research agreements with universities in the UK and Europe. She holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics and a first class degree in Biochemistry from Imperial College.
Martin has over 10 years’ experience in drug development, licensing and technology transfer. He joined MBS from Cancer Research Technology, where he was a Business Manager focused on the identification and evaluation of new technologies from international and UK-based institutes including commercial due diligence and legal negotiations. He was previously a principal scientist within the Psychiatry CEDD of GlaxoSmithKline and also held scientific positions at Abbot Laboratories and Rhone Poulenc Rorer. He holds a first class degree in chemistry and a PhD in computational drug design from the Institute of Cancer Research, London.
Sarah has over 4 years’ experience in technology transfer, most recently as Business Manager at Cancer Research Technology Ltd. In this role Sarah was responsible for the identification, protection, development and commercialisation of technologies sourced from research institutions worldwide. Prior to this, Sarah worked as an Intellectual Property Manager for NHS Innovations and also interned at the University of California San Francisco Office of Technology Management. She is a graduate of The University of York and has a PhD in Biochemistry from The University of Cambridge.
Barry was formerly Chief Scientist and Head of Project Evaluation at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals (1999-2006) where he was responsible for the discovery and development of the anti-cancer drugs Zoladex and Casodex, used for the treatment of breast and prostate cancer. He was awarded an OBE in 2000 for services to cancer drug discovery.
